CLUB HISTORY
A Brief History of F1 Racing FC (14/04/08)

The team have previously competing under the guises of Regional Railways North East and Northern Spirit.

In the previous 6 seasons the team have managed 2 promotions and 4 cup quarter final appearances.

The club was founded as Regional Railways North East by the legendary Don Bishop in 1993 mainly for railwaymen but it became more mainstream over time. That side had such hall of famers and cult heroes as Steve Foots, Dougie Desmond, Pete Goldsmith and current F1 chairman Ian Yeowart.

As the players became older Don Bishop recognised the need for new blood and new investment. He installed a youth policy which brought current players Dave John, Baba and NY through and these players still carry Don's legacy forward in 2008.

In 1998 RRNE became Northern Spirit as the company changed names. Many of the RRNE players had retired or moved on including Don Bishop so a whole new set of players were introduced over time but Spirit were never to hit the heights of the previous regime and suffered the indignity of the clubs only ever relegation in 2002.

From the ashes of Northern Spirit rose F1 Racing with Neil Yeowart and Dave Wright overseeing a chaotic first season where they started the team totally from scratch and which saw 29 players used. A mid table finish in 2003 laid the foundations for Andrew Bridge to take the reins in 2003.

Season 2003/04 started patchily much like the previous season until a link to new players who were studying at York St Johns opened up through them working for the-then club sponsors part time. This saw 4 new players join who would go on to form an integral part of the team over the next 3 years and saw F1 claim 2 successive promotions.

By the end of 2006/07 season it had become apparant a change of Manager was in order. Failure to keep on top of the teams organisation on and off the field plus some disappointing results saw Bridge depart the club after 6 years as both player and then manager in fairly acrimonious circumstances.
